The large oak doors parted and Selena stood at the front of the well lit podium overlooking the four house tables full of students. Behind her sat the crowd of new Professors and despite her nerves she stood as confident and radiant as ever. Her attire was an expensive pair of white and violet robes, her long ebony colored hair straightened down her back and covering her blue eye. She smiled back at the Professors , the scar on her opposing cheek semi hidden by the candle light.
The noise from the students was loud but she only smirked lifting her wands and firing a cluster of house colored fireworks throughout the great hall. Silence fell among the students as they diminished. The floating candles returned to the enchanted ceilings and she stepped away from the podium, to stand next to the stool and the sorting hat.
“Welcome back to another year here at Hogwarts! I am Selena Holland, your Headmistress and Professor for those of you in Astronomy.” She began and slipped her wand back into her pocket. “To start off I would like to remind all students that the forbidden forest is not a play area! It is dangerous and anyone caught within it without the company of a Professor will be reprimanded accordingly. Also despite our attempts for house unity; no other house will be permitted to enter another houses commons or dorms.” She eyed the Gryffindor table, specifically the red haired boy who had gone rather quiet. “Before we eat I wish to get the first years as well as some new students sorted and into their houses. After wards we shall introduce you all to your new Professors while your bellies are being satisfied. As I call your names simply step forwards and place the Sorting Hat on your head.”
“Avys Knight!” she bellowed to a new student whom had yet to truly be sorted.

Take a deep breath as you walk through the doors,
Oh man. Was this frightening. As Avys stood in the middle of the Great Hall, she was practically terrified. She could hear the hundreds of students around her, but she couldn't see them. Couldn't separate any voices out as a single person. She trembled slightly, pulling Ruya close to her side, placing her hand on his head. The crackle of fireworks spooked Avys, and her trembling increased for a moment, before she was calmed by the sound of someone she knew. It was Headmistress Holland addressing the student body. “Welcome back to another year here at Hogwarts! I am Selena Holland, your Headmistress and Professor for those of you in Astronomy. To start off I would like to remind all students that the forbidden forest is not a play area! It is dangerous and anyone caught within it without the company of a Professor will be reprimanded accordingly. Also despite our attempts for house unity; no other house will be permitted to enter another houses commons or dorms. Avys smiled. She could barely find her own house. When would she ever have the time to go into anothers? "Before we eat I wish to get the first years as well as some new students sorted and into their houses. After wards we shall introduce you all to your new Professors while your bellies are being satisfied. As I call your names simply step forwards and place the Sorting Hat on your head.” Avys listened to the speech, and was comforted only for a moment before she heard, "Avys Knight."Oh geez. That was her, wasn't it. Luckily, Ruya knew her name, and knew it meant for her to go forward. He pulled, she followed, and the pair walked down the center aisle to the front near the stool. Avys took the hat off the stool, and sat down, then placed the hat on her head. "Ahh. Interesting. Yes. Very interesting. Courage. Loyalty. Steadfastness. Trueness. A beauty with brains. And such a unique being you are. It had better be Hufflepuff! A voice whispered in her ear, before shouting out to the rest of the school. Trembling, she got up, set the hat down on the stool once more to await the next person, and she directed Ruya to the Hufflepuff table. They had gone over the placements earlier this evening, as so not to look ridiculous wandering around trying to find the right table. She hoped her friend, Kyrk, who was so comforting to her earlier, would soon be sorted. She bet he would end up in Hufflepuff with her. It was just a hunch Its the morning of your very first day. KYRK YARWOOD! Why This Why Now? What Should I Do? * * * * * Kyrk stood in a small crowd towards the front of the room, dressed fabulously of course and waiting his turn to be sorted into his new house. He did his best to stay back from Avys’s dog as he didn’t want his blonde fur on him when he noted the girl pull the dog closer. Kyrk’s hands fell to his side as he watched and raised a brow. Was she scared? He thought keeping a careful eye on her.
A shot of fireworks were released and his eyes traveled upwards but from the corner of his eye seen the jump out of the girl in front of him and he quickly hurried up to her. He set his hand on her far shoulder standing tall behind her, as though telling her he was there. He had forgotten she couldn’t see what was going on, only hear it. He set his other hand on her arm and grinned lightly even though she couldn’t see it.
“It’s ok Avys I’m right behind you. Professor Holland just set off some fireworks to get this unruly bunch’s attention.” He rubbed her arm gently hoping to calm her down a bit. When Selena started to speak he looked up from behind his friend and listened with her. He followed her gaze towards the Gryffindor’s direction as she mentioned other houses are not permitted into each others dorms before returning his gaze to Professor Holland as she called Avys name. Kyrk stepped back and allowed the dog to take over as he guided her towards the stairs.

It was good to be home. This was home. These people were his family. As Marc sat at the table of Ravenclaw, he chatted with his friends and caught up with them, learning who they spent their summers. He himself spent half the time at the slopes in Switzerland, and on the beaches in Italy.
A flash and crackle of fireworks silenced the body of students, and Marc looked up to see the Headmistress standing with a smile. It was said that the hair that covered half her face covered some scars. As she gave her opening speech, he tuned her out slightly. He'd been here for 6 years, this being his 7th, he had heard most of this already. When she called the first name, he expected some scraggly looking, pimply faced, young first year to come walking up.
The girl who slowly came forward was a vision, even in the traditional black school robes. The curly blond hair hanging down over her shoulders to her back was a ray of sunshine, but the dog at her side was a mystery. He leaned forward and watched her carefully sit on the stool, her eyes were closed, and he didn't think it was just out of fear. Was she blind?
A moment later, the hat announced she was to be in Hufflepuff, and he watched her slowly walk to the table next to his. He turned in his seat, watching her, following her with his eyes. Who was she. Why did he attract his attention so. These questions ran through his mind, but there was nothing he could do to find an answer. Taking a mental picture of her, he turned to watch the rest of the sorting. He would meet her soon enough. Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw were good to each other.

Noah knew he was late but why would that surprise anyone, he was always late! He reached the Hogwarts gates and tried to open them finding them locked. Cursing he removed his backpack and tossed it over the cast iron gate before latching onto the stone and starting to climb. It was just his luck that he would get stuck doing chores that made him miss the train. He climbed up and over the gargoyle, jumping and landing on his feet. Scooping up the knapsack he began to run across the grounds. His worn muggle sneakers were dirty now having once been white but that was a long time ago. His torn jeans were too big and they caught together as he ran; he had to pull them up as he reached the entry hall and he looked around his reddish brown hair falling into place.
He could hear the voice from the other side of the Great hall doors. His blue eyes looked up the vast door and he straightened his navy tie resting against his oversized, un-tucked blue dress shirt. He swung the backpack back over his shoulder and pushed through the doors stopping with a slight blush as all the robed faces turned to look at the disturbance. He looked about nervously before swallowing and walking down to the group of students being sorted. He wet his lips as he stopped beside Kyrk and only nodded his head nervously, acting like he had been there the whole time.
“Hey” he smiled once more and watched as the newly sorted Hufflepuff girl headed towards the table. He watched her and her long blonde hair as a large golden dog guided her. He smiled faintly knowing instantly that she was blind, or partly blind but he looked back once more at her before waiting for his name to be called forth.

She glanced back at her cousin who was still getting out of the coach and she smirked. They were definitely going to turn some heads. Both were knock outs with long blonde hair and knew how to dress mind you Blair knew her cousin’s freakish animal obsession would scare people off.
Already in a uniform, her old American one from Salem Academy she strutted forth. They’re uniforms were shorter skirted with knee high white stocking and black shoes complete with white shirts and matching ties. She smirked as her long blonde hair flowed out as she walked. She seen the doors open as a boy ran in first and she followed suit only more presentable and expecting of some cat calls. She knew if she was going to make an entrance this would be it.
Her eyes looked around the room, catching sight of a few hot ones as she walked. She seen the sandy haired Ravenclaw eyeing the blonde going to sit and she glanced back at him with a wink before falling into line next to the other waiters.

Lexie slowly got out of the coach after her much prettier cousin and looked up at the large castle. It wasn’t as elegant as Beauxbatons but it was better than nothing. She heard her cousin’s words “This should be fun!” and she only shook her blonde head and following only a little slower. Her pet mouse sat on her shoulder, hidden by her long blonde hair that was down and almost angelic in the faint light about her. She entered the school in a simple pair of French blue jeans and a white elegant shirt. Her silver cross hung around her neck as she looked through the doors where her cousin had just reached the line up.
Lex swallowed having heard the whistles and felt really nervous. She wasn’t that confident nor pretty and yet she knew she had to get over there with the others. She gulped lightly and put her shoulders back. Head up, like she was taught at Beauxbatons and flowed forwards into the room. She dashed her eyes about nervously, following her cousin’s eye to the boy at the Ravenclaw table; a faint smile toying with her lips but quickly looked away. She heard Cheese squeak softly in her ear and she lifted her hand to make it appear as though she were moving her hair, only to brush his head gently with her finger.
She came to a stop next to Blair and smiled softly at the other two boys ahead of her, hating the fact they had to make entrances like they had.

Selena waited patiently as the dog led the girl forward and allowed the girl her dignity as she sat herself upon the stool. She sat the Sorting hat upon her head and waited carefully as it spoke before announcing Hufflepuff house. She smiled softly, clapping along with the rest of the houses, stepping back to allow the others room to move down from the stage. She waited patiently for the room to regain it’s composure over Hufflepuff’s new victory.
The doors burst open and Selena’s hand went for her wand until the boy paused almost frightful. Her hand returned to the resting spot and smiled at the boy who had entered, she waved him forwards ever so slightly and watched as he fell into line aside the other young boy. Shortly after, Selly was surprised to see a blonde with very revealing uniform. Ah the American witch she thought to herself and glanced around hearing the cat calls. Shaking her head she couldn’t help but grin at the children about her who weren’t really children anymore. Another blonde followed, just as pretty as the first and she nodded to the students to shut the door in the back. Surely this was the end of the stragglers.
She allowed the room once more to go quiet before reading the next name off the list. “Kyrk Yarwood!”

Connor was glad to finally be back at school and away from his hectic household. He sat in his Ravenclaw robes next to Amara and happened to catch the glance of the Raven beside him at the blonde walking towards the Hufflepuff table. He nudged him gently and leaned next to him. “She’s pretty huh?” he smiled and offered the boy his hand. “Connor Wood..your Clooney right?” he asked making it a point as Vice president of the social committee to at least know last names.
Amara was giggling next to him and he cast his look at her before the blonde bombshell walked in with a strut and a short skirt and he raised his brows in surprise. “Wow I guess I missed the memo about shortening the girls uniforms…look at the legs on her” he chuckled as his friend smacked his arm before shaking his head. His eyes followed to the next blonde and then he whistled low. “Now that is cute!” he said eyeing her from head to toe. It was rare to see a girl that innocently blonde and he had to admit she was cute. He glanced sideways at Clooney and grinned.
“So what do you think of those girls?” he asked curiously his eyes fading back to his best friend and unfortunately the girl he was secretly in love with his entire life of knowing her. His eyes went back to the older kids waiting to get sorted and were curious as to what houses they would end up in.

Marc turned to the male seated beside him. He was a brunette seated next to a blonde. Connor Wood. Yeh, he remembered this kid. He always seemed like a nice guy. Taking the hand extended to him, he smiled and shook it. "Yeh, Clooney. Marc Clooney. And yeh, she is quite pretty." He glanced back over his shoulder at the girl, who was sitting quietly.
The doors burst open, and Marc watched first as the male kind of crept in, and then the blonde bombshell come in. She practically strutted down the center aisle. She sent a wink his way, and he gave her a lopsided smile back. Then the next girl entered, and she too, was someone to write home about. Not as sassy looking as the first blonde, but she had a kind of charm about her that made her attractive in a different way. "They're quite pretty as well. Its like Hogwarts gets cuter and cuter each minute," He gave Connor a grin.

Gwendelynn sat far over, actually at the last seat of the table in the front of the room, and watched quietly while the Selena addressed the students, and the first sorting began. She herself had never gone through a sorting, and she was curious as to how this would happen. When Selena placed the hat on Avys' head, she cocked her own, curious as to what would happen. Then the hat shouted out Hufflepuff, and everyone began clapping, she followed suit, clapping with the rest.
Now wasn't that just odd? A talking hat. Before her mind could continue down that train of thought, the large doors in the back opened, and like Selena, she also grabbed at her wand. But when the young boy appeared, and quickly scurried down to join the rest, she replaced it. Then she watched as the two ladies walked down, and rolled her eyes at the whistles and catcalls they receive.
Gwen glanced around, and was glad that Selena was able to get the rowdy students back under control quickly. It showed they respected her, and that was a good thing. She listened to her call out the next name, and waited to see which student would come forward.

KYRK YARWOOD! Why This Why Now? What Should I Do? * * * * * Kyrk watched as Avys was sorted into Hufflepuff and he felt his nerves start to appear. Avys had been one of the only people willing to talk to him on the train and after spending several hours laughing and carrying on with her he realized he was growing to like her as a dear friend. He turned about as he heard the door open and his eyebrow rose in surprise as a young, very cute boy stopped beside him and said hello. Kyrk gave him his own pretty grin and moved his fingers in a small wave.
“Why hello there” he grinned but that quickly faded as two bombshell blondes came in and then his name was called by the Headmistress. Kyrk’s already pale face got whiter and he turned slowly looking about before putting his shoulders back and walking onto the stage. He delicately sat on the stool and crossed his legs, as the hat was put on his head. He could only imagine how hideous this thing looked on him but he knew it was only for a brief time.
The hat began to move and Kyrk could hear almost faint whisper in his ear. Well well well, this is quite the surprise to arrive here at Hogwarts. You have a sharp mind and a strong heart, one that could put you miles apart. So you’ve already met your counterpart? The Hufflepuff is where you’ll start!!
Kyrk could not be more pleased by both the choice and the fact they had removed that god awful brown hat from his head. He jumped up and hurried down to join Avys at the table. He slide in next to her and placed a hand on her arm. “Your stuck with me like glue!”

Victoria sat next to the blonde at the end of the table, and sighed. All these children were oogling the two girls who had just entered, but Victoria was just so bored. She hadn't had much contact with anyone of late really, and thus she hadn't had anyone to chat with, to talk to and spend time with.
As the fashionably dressed male was sorted into Hufflepuff as well, Victoria clapped, but her mind was on her first class. She didn't want to do something namby pamby, and keep the children bored. She wanted them to at least have a little fun. But she didn't want to bring anything dangerous or too overwhelming for the first class. Everyone still told stories about how Hagrid brought out a herd of Hippogriffs on his first day of class, and that Malfoy guy, she looked down the way towards him, got injured. Different versions told it was his fault, while others said it was the crazy hippogriffs, but, Victoria shook her head to clear the thoughts. You do not mess with a Hippogriff.
Sighing, she relaxed in her chair, her black robes with a light blue embroidering settling around her. Maybe she'd get the grounds keeper to assist her. That would be greatly appreciated. She glanced over at the blonde. "Pst. I'm Victoria," she whispered, and smiled at the blonde.

Post by Sirius Black Darmoth on Feb 6, 2011 14:17:50 GMT -5
It was all just so intimidating. Imagine, never knowing your father, then find yourself staying at the one place that he spent most of his young life at. As Sirius Black Darmoth sat at the far end of the table, near the door that led off to the side room, he was just in awe of his surroundings.
Sure, he heard everything the Headmistress was saying, and he clapped along with everyone else when the times were appropriate, but other than that, he was in his own little world. His eyes flitted around, briefly touching on this or that before quickly moving to the next. The floating candles, the ceiling as a sky. It was just as his mother had explained it to her, but it was better. Because now, he was here. He was were he had wanted to be almost his entire life. Where he felt like he could learn about his father.
As the second sorting finished, he glanced around, and his eyes paused on the shaggy black haired male with the spectacles further down the table. That was Harry Potter. His fathers god-son. So. What did that make him to Sirius? A god-brother? He sighed, and glanced away. That wasn't something he wanted to jump into just yet. He just wanted to get used to being here for the time being. That was his major first step.
